Default Alarm System

Every time I open the door using the key, my alarm goes off. Never really been a problem, but now my keyless entry is starting to dieout so it takes a while sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't work at all. Electrical is pretty much my achilles heel, so probably cant even do something moderately difficult. Could this be an easy fix before I take it in? And please don't tell me to just go get a new battery for my keyless entry, because i'm trying to fix this once and for all so when people move my car or grab something from it, they don't use the key and be like what the ?

I was also thinking about just disarming the alarm system all together.

Maybe it has to do with the way you are arming/locking your car.

I assume if your key fob doesn't work, that you are using the lock button on the inside, then stepping out and closing the door?

Maybe if once you're out of the car, lock your door using the key itself, and not a button/fob. Then hopefully when you unlock it the same way, it won't go off.

I had the same problem...I had to jump in the car after I opened the door and put the igintion key in and turn it to the on position to prevent it from going off...I think I had all of about 10 seconds.

just get a new FOB

Fortee is correct, if I manually lock my doors, then close them, then unlock them with the key, the alarm doesn't go off. But if I set the alarm, then use the key to open the doors, the alarm goes off. The remote unlocks the doors however whether or not the alarm is set.

Is it a factory alarm or an after market add on? These cars came with VATS, which works better than any after market add on.

Ya, I always use the power locks inside the car when I lock the car. Is that normal then or what, because that's kind of an annoying side effect.

If you don't have the keyless entry remote, and lock using switches inside, then yes it is normal for the alarm to go off. I have had to do that before, and I had about 10 seconds to get the key in the ignition and turned to ON before the alarm would start sounding.
