I hate to deter people from doing a project but swaps on modern cars cost a lot of money. I did a 3.4 swap to an lt1 which in complexity is a far more simple swap becuase it is a plug and play with the wiring harness.

Your going to need a ton of parts to list a few.
-tranny
-kmember
-springs
-driveshaft
-rear axle
-gauges
-your going to have to work out a new set up for the power steering
-cut the cowl to make the distributor fit
-wiring
- cooling system because the lt1 uses electric fans controlled by the computer
-exhaust system

im sure im missing stuff you will need. another member who did this swap estimated he had over 5k into it.

Yeah i've been browsing the site quite a bit and have decided to take Gorns advice and swap it for another 3.8 if i can sell the 350 for a decent price. It seems that, after all, the 3800 is a very nice engine and i think i was kinda in the mindset that i would only get the power i wanted from a V8 and from what i have been reading it is simply not accurate...the 3800 has a very respectable amount of power and i just had to think back to the last time the car was mine and how exilarating (spellcheck?) it was to drive which as i remember really surprised me at the time because i have always thought that if it wasn't a V8 it couldn't be fast y'know but i realize that this was wrong. also from what i have read so far there are lots of things i can do to the 3800 when and if i desire more power that would put it, if not just behind, at least equal to what i would get from a stock Carburated 350, especially considering the cost of it. And so, with humility and a bit of lost pride i am putting down the idea of this swap due in large part to the very helpful members' advice that unlike older cars..this one is not right for such a project.
On to better news....i just a bit ago pulled Purple Rayne into my driveway on my trailer for the first time and i couldn't be happier (mechanical problems notwithstanding) to have her back finally. i will post pics as soon as i figure out how lol.
Thanks alot again to everyone that posted in this thread for giving me the opportunity to see the errors of my thinking in a very polite and patient way...as opposed to those who would have just said "youre stupid to try this!" at which my response most likely would have been a stubborn attempt that would have left my baby in pieces for years.

kool, and good decision. if you look at the hp from a carb'd 350 and a 3.8 you wont find much difference. some of the 350s only have 180 hp.
