Unhappy 96 v6 frame completely rusted

Hey everyone. I just found out that my 96 v6 has an intake leak. But it gets better, the frame is completely rusted, to the point where it won't pass inspection again. I live in New Hampshire and they use crazy amounts of salt on the roads which is why it rusted the frame so badly. (yes, I drove a camaro in the mountains of NH all year) So here's my dilemma: Should I sell the parts individually or as a whole? How much should I look to be getting if I sell it as a whole? I'm looking at new cars and I want to figure something out before I start college again.

Details:
188,xxx
Original tranny (automatic), motor, and engine
Replaced driveshaft at 150,xxx (only major issue other than intake leak)
Body rust on drivers side wheel well
Mint Interior
Regular oil changes

Thanks!

Depends on how much time you have. Selling it by parts can get you more money but can take a long time. Selling whole is less money but done faster.

i parted a neon out once it was more of a hassle then it was worth in the end and im not even sure i made out better after all the running around shipping the stuff and every thing else.

why not try and find a good solid roller and move every thing to that. Rollers can be found cheap especially v6 ones.

That is A lot of work to install a motor and tranny that have almost 200 K on them. I guess that is the problem. 96 V6 with no engine issues but a rusty frame can be bought for $500-$600, 96 V6 with soild frame but need intake gaskets can be bought for $600-$800 so what is a 96 V6 that needs an intake and a frame work worth? Base model parts do not bring much money. Front clip would have some value honestly I do not see this car putting much money in your pocket.

it is a lot of work but its not horribly hard. the problem is that after you part the car out you have no car and very little money. if you get a solid roller and you do a refresh on the motor.

just an idea and another option. i would do that before i parted it out. like i said i didnt make much at all when parting out a neon with 120k on it.

the only other option is to trade it in on a new car and let it be there problem

Thanks for all of the replies. I am thinking about either trying to trade it in when I get my next car or just selling it as a whole for parts. I think trying to part it out indidually is going to be too much of a headache than I want. It is really disappointing since I've had it since 03 and never had any major issues with it. Even more disappointing is that I can't afford another one unless I magically get a bunch of $. I need something that will get me to campus and back in the winter. I live on top of a mountain so driving a rwd car can be an adventure in the winter and I want something that will have a better change climbing hills in the winter. I'm now looking at a Monte Carlo SS and Grand Prix coupes. I'll have another camaro someday : ( Thanks again for all of the responses!

Look at subarus. Amazing winter cars. The wrx is also a fast car. The sti is stupid fast. They aren't to badly priced either.

Subaru's are nice but all of the ones I've found around here are either out of my price range or have frames that are very rusted. It hard to find cars around here that have not been destroyed by salt. Like Adam9066 said, A Sti is definitely out of my price range. I'm going to keep searching for a decent car. At least I know what to look for when buying a used car since I've done a lot of work on my car myself. I love rolling up to car dealers or private sellers and they think they can screw me around cause I'm a girl. I'll keep you updated on what happens with my camaro. I'm thinking about calling Camaro Heaven since it's only 30 minutes from my house and see what they'll give me for my car. Thanks again everyone!

You have frame inspections in NH?! Really?! Wow. Here I thought the state with the moto of "live free or die" and the home of the Free State Project would be more freedom friendly?! http://freestateproject.org/

How about a few photos so we can get a better idea of just how rusted it is?

Also, if your car goes through winters/snow/salt -- you HAVE to address the corrosion annually with rust prevention spray/paint. You can get some cans of rust prevention spray cheaply at WalMart -- worth the investment to prolong your car's life...
