I don't know if a 700r4 would bolt up perfectly mine came with the 4L60e as well and its a 95. All the automatic lt series cars ive ever seen also has it. My buddy's third gen has a 700r4 but thats an 80's car. A 4L60e is basically a 700r4 with more electronic componets in it.

In 93 GM put the 4L60 in the Camaro. The 4L60 is just another name for the 700R4. It is pretty common pratice to change the name of somthing that has had a lot of problems. The 4L60e is just the electronic control shift version of the 700R4. Most of us that have been working on these things since the early 80's still call them 700R4s. Most likely the guy is just calling it a 700R4 cause him or a buddy of his is old school.

Converting to a 700R4 is doable but would be a huge pain computer wise.
