94 Camaro 3.4 won't start
Hey everyone, I have a 1994 Camaro 3.4 with a 5 speed behind it. I bought it believing that it ran but it turns out that it didn't. The major issue that I'm having is that it will crank over, fire on like one cylinder and then do nothing else. It fired up for about a minute once but when it did it was missing like crazy and I had to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running. The original issue that I thought I had fixed was the fuel pressure regulator, it was just pouring fuel into the intake and it would backfire every time I tried to start it. I replaced that and it helped a little bit but not enough to fix everything. I still think that it's over fueling and fowling out the spark plugs, just not as bad. When I try and crank it smells like raw fuel after a while. I can't figure out why it's over fueling and I'm at a loss. Injectors tested okay, injector grounds are good, don't know if they could be stuck open or not I haven't checked that yet but I don't think that they are. Oh, I also tested the fuel pressure and everything checked out. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Are you talk about a backfire from the intake or a loud pop from the exhaust? Over fuels can cause a loud pop from the exhaust but in my experience over fueling will cause the plugs to foul out and not spark at all. (aka a flooded engine) The fuel then gets pushed into the Cat and when a cylinder final does spark it will shoot fire through the exhaust to the cat and cause that pop. Lean (not enough fuel) can cause a lean pop that sounds like a small backfire. Real backfires are almost always timing. Could be valve timing or an ignition control timing. Also if the Cat is plug you can get a backfire from the intake on the first few rotations of the crank but most of the time the car just wont start.

If the check engine light is on then read the codes first. You could also check fuel pressure and see if all the plugs are firing using a spark tester. If you are here in the US you can "borrow" a fuel presure gage from most chain type parts stores. You just need a card to secure it. Spark testers are cheap and everyone sells them. All the parts stores, there are inline ones and inductive ones.
