I recently installed a new carburetor and intake manifold in my 79 z28 and a wire from the wiring harness was left on the engine block... lets just say it flamed up and destroyed the throttle linkage carburetor manifold and warped a header along with charing the hood. Im lookin to put more power into the car and still keep it street legal any ideas on the carburetor-manifold combo? im also running a crane high performance cam im lookin for some intake combos and headers that can keep up with it and keep it from stalling. I was running edelbrock 650 cfm carb with a edelbrock air gap manifold and edelbrock headers and they just werent getting the job done and the fire is forcing me to replace everything
any opinions on the holley carburetor vs. edelbrock?

I think the cam you have in there might be to big for that top end set up. What heads are you running? Did you get the dual plane air gap or the single plane? Dual planes give you more low end torque and that doesn't mix too good with a HUGE cam. I personally like Holly better. I just think it's easier to tune and there are a lot more options for it as opposed to an Edlebrock. I don't know if the car has ever had a tune up, but taht would really help keep the engine running.

Im running dynomax 1.5" shorty headers with a single plane air gap manifold but in the fire it was destroyed along with the carburetor. I would like to avoid dropping the cam if possible but now that i have to redo the manifold and carb. and probably the headers too i want something that can keep the engine reliable. Would bigger headers help me out with the cam? Im thinking about going with the same manifold but a holly carb aslo would a higher cfm carb help out with the bigger cam?
thanks for the help
