71 camaro body mated with a rolled/totalled 4th gen donar
I'm wondering if anyone has any good information on building a 71 camaro project car with a 4th gen donar car. I dont know if I could get drivetrain with front subframe assembly to sit under the 71 shell, then make as many switches that are possible to make the project better. Such as making modifications to mount strut and upper control arms up within what looks like a 71 camaro. If anyone has done a similar procect i would appreciate pointers. I am a mechanic by trade and have a little extra time and even less cash.

It would be a huge project. The K frame from the forth gen goes into a cradle. The 71 Front end reaches all the way under the unibody. The designs are completely different. You would have a build a 3 ft section of frame to reach to add to the K frame. You might be able to splice the two frame sections together but the Forth gen support its weight thru the, for lack of a better term, “Strut towers” While the 2nd gen keeps the weight right in the frame area. Anything can be done but I think this is one I would want to lay out in CAD first and do some basic stress analyses. Most likely what ever came up with would be heaver and not as good as either designs.

Like Gorn stated a ton of measuring & mock up involved with a build of this caliber. It would be very cool though if you can make it all work. Old school on the outside & newer technology under the skin.

The question is WHY? It's not like the suspension of the 4th Gen car is so advanced...
Why not just swap in the motor and trans, (plus harness), and then source out the best suspension upgrades you can find for the '71? I'm sure this swap has been done plenty of times, and I would bet you can find most of the bits to make this a bolt in operation. Heck, there are swap kits to put an LT1 or LS1 into just about anything, from '32 Ford to a Jeep CJ7, and everything in between.
