3rd or 4th Gen Camaro - Good First Car?

Also with regard to insurance, I have State Farm and they have a discount program for new drivers that saves you twenty percent I believe as long as you keep a clean record. I've never paid more than one hundred a month and I bought my Camaro at 19 still with a clean record and the discount.

Just a reminder to people, when it comes to auto insurance where you live has a huge effect on your insurance. Insurance companies will break a a State sometimes even a city up and your rate goes by where you live Plus your record. I have moved around a lot and I can tell I have had my insurance cost dropped 75% when moving from Philly out to the country with no other changes and the same company.

Yeah where you live is a big factor. The more ppl around the higher the cost. But I pay 72$ a month for my ins. And I have a v8. I used to drive a v6 culass and it was more money like 86$ a month

Yeah my V6 Mustang under my mother's insurance was more than my SS is under my name.

That's not too bad if you have full coverage.
Is the SS a V8?

im just gonna throw my two cents in here my first car was a 91 rs with a small 8 in it. i now have a 97 z28. if i could do it all over again my first car would be the biggest pos thats safe i can find. i crashed my first camaro into a pole racing and my passenger died who was my best friend it landed me in jail for 6 months and i also lost my DL for 3 years not to mention i will no longer get to see my friend ever again. with that said if your still stuck on a camaro get the 4th gen much safer the 3rd gens start fish tailing if you run over someones spit. i find my 4th gen is alot better with handling.

+1 with a crappy car. I had a '95 V6 Camaro as my first car, and I ended up hardcore rolling it (should've been killed). Learn the tough lessons in a crappy car, so that way you don't care as much if/when something happens.

It's kind of a double edge sword. If you buy a 6 you save on gas and insurance but also don't get experience in driving fast toys. If you get a 8 you spend all your hard earned dough on gas n insurance. I'd say 8 if you have parents who like to spoil they're kids.
