Default 2002 SS

This is going to be a pretty open ended question but here it goes...
I commute a good distance to work everyday and is about time I get a car I really enjoy, I'mlooking for a 2002 SS and have found several at dealers or private sellers. This vehicle will be a daily driver for me and I commute 35 miles (30 of it highway) each direction to work so 70 miles a day. The '02 in particular caught my eye because of the 28mpg on the highway. Are you all really seeing numbers in the mid to upper 20's?
The options I absolutely want is manual transmission, t-tops, low miles (under 60k), the SS package, and leather seats. I found one at a dealer that is the SS LE model but not SLP. has everything I'm looking for with 45K miles and they are asking $18k. IS this high or about right for this model/options?
What is about the right price for same options, just not the LE model?

I've just recently started looking and like many, don't trust dealers on used cars and am very iffy on buying from a private party...at least the dealer you can get an extended warranty. I like the LE package, but if I'm likely to save $5k by not getting that option I'd just assume not pay the extra.

What in particular should I be cautious on with this model/year or is there anything that needs "extra" inspection? I have noticed the dealers have them marked anywhere from 310 - 325 - 345 HP. I know the SLP option was 345 but the standard SS model, is it 310 or 325? Doesn't change my position on the car at all, just curious.

I've thought about getting a 2010 SS but can't bring myself to dump $34k into a daily driver that will have over 60,000 miles in less than 3 years! That, and the MPG rating was around 23 on that one which is what i get on my current car....28 ain't much better but considering all the miles I drive a year, it adds up.

Thoughts, comments, I'm curious. I own an '87 305 auto and have had it 9 years. Looking for something more fun and better built.
thanks

Hey.. i just bought a 1999 Camaro SS SLP about 3 weeks ago. I bought it for $11,000 and it has just under 53k miles on it. I am like you with trusting private party sales so thats why i would recommend doing alot of research on to why the car is being sold. the guy sold the camaro to me because he just got a corvette. Anyway i did some research and found that the base Z-28 model of the 2002 camaro is 310hp. Your question on wether its high or just right depends on you, most camaro owners have/do take care of there cars and if its under 60k miles id say your going to look at about $15,000 at the lowest. I hope some of this info is helpful.

I've been looking for the last 3 weeks or so and haven't seen what I'm looking for, for less than $15,500 so that pretty much matches up with what you've seen. Seems the LE demands a few thousand more with the same options which makes sense. Thanks for the feedback, just confirms what I was suspecting on the demand for these cars with those options.
