2002 Camaro
Hi, I recently purchased a 2002 Camaro from a friend who was in the process of having the timing chain replaced by one of her friends. Half way through the repair her friend just stopped working on the car and never returned so my friend decided to sell the car since she couldn't make the repairs herself. He has the new timing chain installed although i'm not sure it's timed correctly. I've heard that on this model if the gears will go on the shafts the engine will be in time. On all engines i've dealt with previously you had to set the #1 piston at TDC before setting the timing. Is this model different and that informating is correct? What is the proper procedure for setting the timing? Also I found a plastic piece coming out of the front of the engine, near the intake manifold. It is just above and to the right of the timing chain. It has a 90 degree bend and looks like a water hose would connect to it. This piece is broken. Can this piece be replaced? I have pictures of the broken piece but do not know how to post them on here. I found another plastic piece identical to the broken one near the alternator. It also has a 90 degree bent and it can be removed easily and it has an O ring on the base to prevent leakage. I am going to get a repair manual for this vehicle but in the meantime I wanted to get you guys advice. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
