I am not an expert but after going thru the process once I do not think it is possible. I do not see you removing the old top to get at the window section without damaging it. When you install a new top the are a lot of adjustment in the process Top to window section that will not like being redone.

I was in the same boat as you with just needing the back window, Every pro I took it to said no way, it needs redone. One guy was cool about it and said I could try it myself but explained that an old top simply would not survive the re-install process and would most likley tear. The cost of a new top is mostly in the labor you can buy everything you need to do a top for less then $400. If you really cheap out on maybe $250 ish.

3M Window Weld
and/or: Convertible Rear Window Install
Btw, I don't see the advantage of a canvas shop owner telling you how to fix your top,
when they'd rather install a new top to help put food on their table.

I did glue mine for about 6 months, FYI plain blck RTV sealer works pretty good if you scuff the glass witha little 250 sand paper. The reason the guy was straight up with me was because he was a friend of a friend and knew I was not getting the whole top done. The original poster was asking about replacing the window section not repairing it. There is a lot of things that can be brought into your home and tried but to bring in a new glue to try means a lot of work for a shop. MSDS sheet and disposal process and that assume they are allowed to use it at all. I can not wash cloths at work because detergent has to high of a phosphorus content to use.

Once you install a top you realize it is a very linear process and you built as you go. While you are installing the top you are aligning with the window. You can tack it inplace while you adjust but once you staple your done. Durring the aging process the top shrinks. If you unstapled it and just restapled it you would end up with a row of hole I have no idea how you re-adjust it a new window without completely removing every staple.

The reason they sell window section seprately is because there are so many option. with glass, with glass tinted, with glass and defoger, plastic ect.

Yes I agree, replacing the whole window is a little different from reattaching only the part that's coming loose. The best way to glue in a whole new window would be to detach the top from the front frame and rear bow, and lay it back flat so you can attach the glass and set some weights on till it sets up. I've installed a convertible top before, so doing this wouldn't scare me at all. But if you're the least bit unsure of what you can and can't do, then it's probably best left to the pros.
