Default 2000 3.8L v6 P0463C code

Hey everyone, I just bought a 2000 v6 and the engine light is on with the above code as well as a few other evap codes. Just wondering if anyone on here has had this issue and how you went about fixing it. Also the car has a slight knock so we are going to pull the motor and replace the crank and bearings if it’s a bad rod, is there anything else I should replace while I’m in there? The car has 134k miles on it.

Sorry, never run into that code before. You may want to look at a used engine. There 3800 are pretty rock solid so they are dirt cheap in the junk yards. We have seen guys find motors with 10-20,000 miles on them for 4-$500. Check out the V6 section for 3800 transplant information.

FYI: the most common failure to these motors bottom ends is a stretched rod. IMO most likely due to cheap rod bolts. The last one of these I had a part was had metal in oil and was going to require new Cam bearing and the block dipped in the hot tank.

agree with gorn, look for a good low miles series 3 3.8. i found one with great compression an 60k on it for 400 bucks. runs great an has 60lbs of oil pressure.
