2/3 series carriers

Default 2/3 series carriers

i have 2.73's on my 98z andiknow that 3.08's and below are 2 series and 3.23's and higher are 3's. someone told me it wouldnt work changing my 2.73's to 3.42's without changing the carrier but i found this: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=skuis this right?

Yes, you can use these gear sets made for a 2-series carrier or a gear spacer which is wealer. Also, beware of Richmond gears for they are cut different and are not as quite as the stock gear sets. The cost of parts & labor for a gear change is going to be in the $500/600 range.

Why don't you look for a rear end from a wreched car that already has 3.42's? It might be cheaper and if you are going to 3.42's in a 98 why not run a 3.73 or 4.10? If you have an auto I'd run a 3.73, with a manual trand 4.10's for the best performance. PS just so you know the higher the ratio the weaker the gear will be and will be more likely to chip or break teeth.
