Default series 2 carrier to series 3

So i have a 94 Z28 and im looking to give it some more get up and go. From what i've read, getting it re-geared is a magnificent way to get it some more performance, but from what i read that i need to have a series 3 carrier for getting it geared higher. My choice of gearing i want is 3.73 compared to my 2.73's

But my knowledge on the carriers are a bit weak. So what i would like to know is how i can make this gear swap happen. Like were can i get a series 3 carrier, what do i have to do to swap it. Like a step by step walkthrough if anyone would may.

Replacing a carrier is hard work, its not a hard job but its very important to know what your doing as you could really destroy your rear end. You could always just replace the whole axle with one from a manual Z28, it should have 3.73s in it factory.

^ 4th gens didn't come with 3.73's. Only the M6 cars came with 3.42's. The autos came with 3.23's or 2.73's...

On a more appealing note to the OP:

You can get 3.73 gears sets for the series 2 carrier at SummitRacing.com. They'll hold up better than the series 3 gears sets as well because they're thicker!

Here's a link to a set of series 2 3.73's:

Search Results for gm 7.625 series 2 3.73 - SummitRacing.com

Good luck in your search good sir!

So basically buy the kit and install it without screw anything up. (or let the shop install it for more $$$)

The kit will have the gears, new bearings, crush sleeve, etc.. You can buy that but I recommend having someone who is experienced with differentials install it for you. It's pretty easy to mess it up and grenade your rear end if you've never done it before.
