1997 Z28 Fuel Pump questions - Help
Hey Guys,
Maybe someone has some ideas here on a problem I am having.
I had a new fuel pump installed about 2 months ago on my 97 Z28 Lt1. Car cleary runs better since the new pump is installed but now I have 2 issues.
1. I sometimes get a smell of gas in the garage after I have been out driving. The car has no drips, no smell of gas inside the car but I get these strong exhaust / gas-like fumes in the garage for a little while after I have been driving around.
2. The second issue is that since the new pump is unstalled ( new sending unit as well ) the gas gauge is not reading 100% correctly. When you fill up completely, the gauge wanders from 3/4 full to full.
So, I am hoping not to drop the tank to start checking things out and I don't have the access trap door panel in the trunk area. I cannot bring the car back to the shop that did the work because the mechanic is no longer there and they sort of did me a favor by doing the work to begin with so there really is no warranty on the labor. I'm on my own!
Any ideas or help from anyone to get the gas odors fixed would be great. The gas gauge is more of an annoyance than anything, I could live with that if I have to.
Any ideas on this stuff??

test your evap system, gas cap and take the 02 sensors out and see if they are fouled. it sure sounds like something is not installed correctly if the gage is not working right. shbox is good. 4th Gen LT1 F-Body Tech Aids look at 31 and 32.
