Well I got held up at work today so haven't got a chance to bypass the vats yet, I tested the key and it was reading .601 ohms which isn't any where on the list in the resistor list.

Do you have a spare key at all?

Unfortunantly she doesn't have an extra key, guess I'll make a switch with multiple paths to multiple resistor and just hope I get lucky. I have enough to make the first 7 resistor types.

If you try to start the car with the wrong resistor you will have to wait 3 mins or so before you can try again. Unplugging the battery does not work to reset the timer, it just stalls the timer untill it gets power again. GM parts can tell you what key you should have based on the VIN, but you have to show them proof of ownership before they will give you the info.

Ya your best to go to gm and get the info and new key's. Messing around with the vats system can cause future problems.

Well I figured it out, got the vats bypassed and installed a bypass button you have to hold in when starting the car. So the system still works unless you know about the hidden away button.

Thanks for all the help guys, you guys really saved me. The experience working on this gen 4 reminded why I always stayed away from them lmao. Kinda makes me miss my 84 z28 never had a problem with her.

Haha. Ya these cars have way to much electronic crap for my likings too. I want to get a mid to late 70's just so I don't have to deal with 50 sensors for one little problem.

if the dash lights goes black when you turn the key over you might have a loose ground wire... mine went to 3 shops before we found out what it was... all that money for such a simple problem
