Hey all.

First post on here. Just picked up an 02 SS 6-speed with 125,000 miles on it to turn into an eventual project car. A few days later, got a "service engine soon" light. Had the code read and it said it was a canister purge valve. Took it to a dealer and they said that the 02 SS and Z/28 fuel systems are very complex and to check it out would need more than just a code reader. They quoted me for $70 on the diagnostic. Just wondering if this is an easily fixed problem. I'm new to Chevy and I just want to make sure I'm not being fed a line of BS.

 

need to have a look. evap merge valve. could be rubber hose is cracked open or wire is damaged. good place to start would be a factory service/shop manual. closest we got is a 2000 and it should be fine for your year. go here and download 2000-svcman. https://www.mediafire.com/?40mfgeoe4ctti it will have location of the valve.
