Default twin turbo 305?

I want to build a twin turbo 305, but chevy doesnt make a 4 bolt main 305. i have heard of a kit that you can convert a 2 bolt to a 4 bolt, but i do not know how reliable it would be. the kit uses the existing main caps. you drill and tap a place for 2 more bolts on the outside of the existing bolts. they are angled inword.

has anyone else heard about this kit? Is it reliable?

If it is no good i will just use a 4 bolt 350.

any input is usefull!!

thanks

converting a 2 bolt into a 4 bolt is called splaying. But it is very expensive at the machine shop, the only advantage is that they said it is stronger then a 4 bolt but not cost effective unless your building the best of the best .

i would just start out with a 350 cuz there isnt that many aftermarket parts for the 305's. plus you start out with more hp with a 350

For a twin turbo engine I wouldnt use a factory block for the expense you would go through whats an extra $2000.... you need different caps and line boring/honing when you splay a block it is stronger than a conventional 4 bolt in our area the job will run around $800. The registers need machined also. The aftermarket block is already splayed add in the machining of your used block and it would be close to a wash .....

Default No no no! The 305 will not hold up to the heat

That 305 is a low compression V8. You would need to build the motor and put all new seals in it and a hot little cam. Then I would supercharge it. Mechanics love installing those compared to being at the exhaust part of the motor (for a turbo) trying to fit all kinds of hoses in there. I would research and research and then double research it. I bet it doesn't have posi traction in the rear but you can easily fix that. Take you time. Have fun with it. I waited 9 to 11 months for my supercharger

I have a Gen 6 but it started as a bone stock LT. This post is aboit yours but...had to show you!! Just bought it in April

This is the 19950 Supercharger. It runs off the crank just like mad max. Everything you need comes with it. This is a level one kit. Once this is installed it is tuned for Premium fuel and you can get 379 rwhp and 325 RW torque power and NO MORE unless you add bigger injectors and a larger fuel pump. So, SAE HP? 435 SAE NET. 385 LBFT SAE NET. We want the stage one horsepower so it doesnt destroy the engine ****update**** IT JUST SHIPPED OUT ON OCT 4TH AND I HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE APRIL. Good things really do come!!!

Not sure where you are getting your info but the old 305's are junk. Anywhere near 300 hp you better baby it because the block itself will flex and cause major failure. Even the stock 240 HP 305's use to spin bearings and destroy rods. You could buy them so cheap back in the 80's because people where swapping them out, sure you could buy prats since it was a small block. Oh and the block flexing information came to me right from a GM engineer. You see the block was designed during the bad days of emission when even 350's where 145 HP. and it the gas prices at the time GM wanted the V8 but they needed it as light as possible. I believe the 305 is about 85 lbs lighter then a 350 of the same year.

Edit: Dang it I forgot to check the date again. This is a 14 year old post. Age is catching up with me.

I am new here but not to Camaro's, and just wasted a bunch of time on an old post. Moderator: Where is the most active area here on the forums?

The 305 isnt built for high horsepower .The 350 and there stroker versions are built for it.There are a number of HP books and others on turbocharging and other forms of supercharging .Just on a need to know basis the rest of car needs to be upgraded to handle the increase in horsepower .And need to able to be able to handle it as well.I have seen people who have cars built for them who get scared of the car .And sell it off .
