Front shaft seal. The transmission needs to be dropped for replacement. Estimate cost by a shop $300/400 range. Not a DIY type of job unless you have a lift and tools. I would not even think about doing this with jack stands, my opinion.

do you say this just due to the difficulty of dropping the tranny because of the weight? cause i have dropped turbo 350 tranny's with the car on jack stands and and a floor jack. you just gotta be careful and go slow.

a tranny jack would have made things a lot easier tho. i would suggest at least getting one if you do decide to drop the tranny.

"be careful and go slow" where have I heard that before???? I don't think any young guy is going to ahear to that advice. My opinion still stands, if you do not have the proper equipment for a major repair get it done by someone who has it.

i had the same problem. look at your speed sensor. its located at the neck of the transmission. the seal on mine was done, therefore leaking like no ones business. it cost like $40 i wanna say. simple pop in and out. make sure that the speed sensor isnt leaking then do what the other guys said.
