Default stroked 305

has anyone ever gotten more than 300hp with a 305,which to me is an achievment for a 305,just wondering if you could change the stroke and make it turnrpms like a 327,have built 2 350 sb for my s-10,bought one with a 327,for a 30 over/280comp/305 heads, that thing was a demon, wondering if i can take this RS motor and make its stroke the same as the 327,,am ignorant to any other stroke than a 3 3/4,,dont know what the stroke is for a 327,what length rod determines stroke right?

Default RE: stroked 305

Couple of problems: One problem is that the 305 bottom is not as strong as that of a 327/350 block, so trying to turn the RPM that a 327 is capable of will cause damage to the bottom end. The other problem is valve shrouding caused by the narrow bore of the 305, and this restricts breathing regardless of the heads used. So, if you were to put a stroker crank in a 305, it will increase the stress on the bottom end without an appreciable power increase, although it will boost the low end torque.

The stroke is determined by the length of the crank arm on the crankshaft. Rod length has nothing to do with stroke length, but makes a difference on the angle the connecting rods must make. There is a limit on how big an angle that can be tolerated. Also, there are interference problems with the big end of the connecting rods and the skirt of the block.

A 327 has a bore and stroke of 4.00" x 3.25", while a 305 is 3.74" x 3.48"

This link will show the bore and stroke of most small block combinations:

stroking would be a waste of money, but it's possible to get 300 hp out of a 305 without stroking. just takes the right combo. Sick
