Default Repleaced my carburator

I have a Camaro Z28 - 1984 - Trans. manual. T5
Question: When choosing a new and same Quadrajet 4BB carburetor, is it important to know if it is for a trans. auto. or manual??

Is this the stock carb with the computer system intact?

When dealing with Quadrajets it is a number game. A Holley carb is very adjustable/tunable. Quadrajest are not. There are a series of number on the carb that describe the application the carb is for. If you give those numbers to a parts supplier they can match up a equivalent carb. I used to rebuild these things back in the day seems to me that any change in the drive line would get you a different carb number. The fact that there is no torque converter would tell me the carb would need to be adjusted differently or in the case of a quadrajets be a different configuration.

This would be more prevalent without the computer. I have no way of knowing how much of what the difference would be in the carb and how much is in the programming of the ECU. Would the average driver be able to tell if you put the wrong quadrajet on your car? I kind of doubt it, I would guess the only way you would really tell is on a dyno and in dyno emission testing.

If you really want the carb to be correct and you cannot find the correct number get yours rebuilt. If it is completely worn out there are ways to repair pretty much any normal wear. The carb can be sent out and those guys will have bushing kits and used parts. They also know which parts need to be matching and which ones are standard. I have these guys saved in my favorites. I have never used them. I must have read good things in a post about them. Do you own research on them.
