removing the smog crap
well im just tryin to clean the engine bay of spaghetti. i have ran all mechanical gauges (oil, water, volts) so the only wires i need is my starter and my amp cable. ohh and im keepin a/c so i got all those wires tucked away. but i didnt know where the wires for the lights (head and interior) are at. i took all the smog, cruise, everything luxury. im goin for the 60s motor too except the a/c. heres a pic.

Mightymike. I just saw the pics of your camaro. Man! you could do so much to this car. Im excited for you. What are your plans with it? I would love to be able to help assist you in your build. I don't mean to intrude. I just love camaros and vettes. I've built many and I have owned and own many. Your 350 could become a nice looking and fast street rod. With a few new parts and alittle sweat, you can make this happen. I don't know how financing is with you. Times r tough for everybody. I struggle like a bastard. But, we make it work. I can tell you how to eliminate half your bowl of spagetti. Your q-jet or is that a holley? I cannot see it well. Any way. To me it looks like a q-jet. That thing is of the past. I know they are realiable, when they work. But, I have stood by edelbrock manifolds and carbs for years. They look great and they perform great. That carb you have looks like the head of madusa. The manifold still has egr. That is smog crap. You removed the smog box but you still have the egr unit on the side of the manifold. Loss of hp and a vacuum leak right there. I don't know if you just want looks or hp, or both? At first I wanted looks and then I achieved hp. I went with an edelbrock performer (non-egr) manifold and an electric choke 600 cfm 4 barrel carb. An HEI streetfighter (msd) distibutor and some 8.5mm superconductors from msd, and long tubed headers with a y-pipe. That eliminates all smog, leaks, hp loss, ugliness and confusion of where the hell everything goes. Those items in total would cost you roughly $800.00. You have your old school look and you can do all the work yourself except maybe your exhaust and header welding work. Unless you weld. Now unless you have a ton of cash set aside for this project, then we could talk big, but reasonable priced hp. Hit me back. Really interested in your car and ideas.
ok well some things have changed that was a pic of as soon as i got done with it. the egr is still there cuz i cant find a block off plate. it has an edlebrock preformer intake. the qjet is rebuilt and resized off a bigblock 396. now i did the whole engine and tranny swap for 600$. 400 went to buyin the engine and tranny. i have no job through this whole thing and still dont so most of my stuff either came wit it or from the junkyard. i have to save for a battery now cuz while trying to test the motor i fried the battery with the charger. like the differnces is i got a late 70s vacuum advance dist. cuz the old 1 was just guessing numbers and cuzing it to overheat, put the heater lines where they are suppose to be, pluged up the smog holes in the manifolds, and put in mechanical guages. ill take another pic tomorow. ne help would be appreciated

Well that could change for you in the future. As of now that I take a closer look at your engine. I do see the edelbrock performer intake. Im 29 and I act blind...LOL! I have a performer intake lying around in the garage. Its perfect, but like I said, I wanted more hp. I took off the intake and 600 cfm carb and repleaced it with an RPM air-gap performer intake and a 800 cfm 4-bbl carb. MSD vacuum advanced distributor and some 8.5mm wires. Im using the old 305 wiring harness. Works so beautifully smooth with a lopey lunati cam. I have a block off plate that is still on it. I aint usin it. ur welcome to it. Like I said, q-jets are great, when they work. I still currently have one on my 81 z28. Nothing wrong with it. I bent the tab on the choke so the buterfly wings stay open and I get full throttle response all the time and no warm up procedure. let me know what I can help advise you on. More than happy to help bro.
ya i did the same thing on my carb. i would appreciate it if u could let me get it where u located at and how much u want for it. when i get some money my first upgrade is a cam but too much cuz i still need power brakes(wife and kid).
Well I didn't remove what you call "smog crap" and my engine compartment looks better after a engine swap, then that mess you have. Held my comments, until you posted pictures...

What is up my man? You have an attirude with everyones camaro. I mean no offense but you are raggin hard on some folks for just starting out and learning and trying! Its clear the economy is in tough times and restoring a car is an expensive hobbie. Unless your daddys special little man? What if peps started tearing your camaro down? By looking at your pictures of your car--it's pretty much stock and the smog crap on it is actually robbing your true horsepower. Unless you live in Cally, then I know you have to keep it. Sux 4 u. Im sorry, but whats up dude? Be cool. Everyones camaro is special to them and the rest of us. This ain't a car show. This is a site for people to share and talk and help each other.
Mighty mike....I live in western north carolina. I will just give it to you. Oh and by the way. If you ever decide to mate an edelbrock carburator to that intake. The power brake boost is located in the back of the carb. Im tellin ya. Sweey deal. I have a wife and a few kids. I know exactly what your dealin with.

Well man, I do have Type A- ATTITUDE PERSONALITY. Also NOT "your daddy special little Man". 1987 IROC-Z bought new & original owner for 22 1/2 years. Which means I have owned that Camaro when you were still trying to ride a bicycle. Ask some decent questions and not "HOW TO REMOVE THE SMOG CRAP". So do your OJT and show me some pictures when they are worth showing.
whatever man. I know your type, thats cool. You have a nice camaro. I was just curious why you where rippin on a guy that has just began to learn about his car and get up to par then up to show. I will post some pics to apease you. Out of my 3 camaros and 1 vette. The only one that is stock is the vette. So I will post them all. And the phrase "HOW TO REMOVE THE SMOG CRAP"is what it is ===CRAP! Smog and emissions are horsepower restrictors, just like the ac unit is! The guy was just asking for help on how to get rid of it and what options he has. You I noticed still have yours. You've had your same car 4 22 years, great! I've had my 88 IROC for 11 and my 92 for 12 and my vette for 3 and I have a 81 z28 that was my dads that I inherited. Its been around since it was purchased off the showroom floor! So, whats your ****in point!!!!!!?????
