I traded a jeep for this305 camaro it needed a rebuild on the Q-jet but I just went and bought an edelbrock pro series carb(1406) and a pro rpm intake to bolt the carb to. When I bought all this I was not aware of having to swich over.I was just wondering(most people say non cc is better) and i'm going that way right now for lack of funds but with a msd ignition and timing control would that be better?? I haven't heard much on upgrading the comp control. Thoughs?

 

WHAT!?!?! Trading a Jeep for a Camaro? I'm not sure who got the better end of that; my other vehicle is a Jeep. lol

By "cc" I'm guessing that you mean "computer controlled"? Depends entirely upon which direction you want to take this car. a lot of the old hot-rodders will say that computers are the devil. I think it really boils down to personal preference. Carbs are nice and simple, easy to work on, easy to find parts for, easy to make road-side adjustments, etcetera. But a well set-up computer controlled EFI will be more consistent, more reliable, moreeasily controlled, etcetera.

That's sort of a loaded question. Although, I'm pretty sure all 3rd genF-bodies had a computer of some sort in them, so it's kinda hard to get away from them entirely unless you rewire the whole car. Orbuy a stand-alone engine management computer to bypass the low-tech crap from the factory.

 

Carb, distributer and if you have a 700R4 a controler for the TCC. I live in California and can't do that kind of stuff so I learned to keep my stuff running and run well with the computer. Even my carbed 84 Z28.

 

yea, tha jeep needed a new front clip and a tranny.the camaro is cool it just has alot of rust(but nothings gone through yet)and its onlygot 90,000 miles on it so I think i got the better deal.
tha camaro is a 84 z28 so I guess i would only need to worry about changing the stock distibutor with an hei i was told having the controlers just makes it easer to adjust timing and fine tune.but for the most part it won't make much difference.
