new to the site, with fuel pump problems...
Hey all as stated I'm new here been doing a lot of reading on a lot of camaro sites. First off I have a 88 irco with a 305 tpi. I'm posting a link to thirdgen I joined them right after I got my camaro and now trying to branch out to other sites to bounce ideas around to see if I can get this car fixed before the 25th.... http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/tp...-problems.html. here u will find everything that has been tried tested and looked at if you could help me get this thing running again it would be great. Thank you up front for Any and all help

Even with having fuel pressure, and a starting fluid prime, you get no fire. You can rule out a fuel supply problem. How did you check for spark, and do you know if you're getting a good spark or a weak spark? You didn't do anything to mess up your timing, like rotating the distributor, or changing the plug wires and getting them mixed up? Getting spark is one thing, having good spark at the right time is part of what makes the engine run.

Nothing has been done to the timing. And yes I'm getting good spark at first I used a lightbulb tester after i knew I was getting spark, I bought. Tester that screws in and out to check the strength of the spark was great

Do you have a timing light? Hook it up and check where your timing is at while you're cranking the engine over. Possibly something threw the timing off, like a severely sloppy timing chain jump.

I don't get fuel pressure with the prime cycle only when I jump the fuel pump relay, I have a feeling I figure out the fuel problem I'll have found the no start problem. It hits everynow and then but I'm not gettin pressure to the rails. And yes I've checked the fuel pressure regulator. Holds vaccum, and does not smell of gas which I was told are the two signs that It's faulty.

Ok but, if you're getting a strong steady spark, and if your timing is on the mark, you should have gotten a momentary fire with that shot of starting fluid.
And by strong spark, I mean the spark plugs themselves. Have you checked to make sure your plugs aren't fouled out? Maybe even try a new set.

New plugs have less then 100 miles on them I had done a tune up on the car bout 2 weeks prior to this problem. Along with plugs it has new wires cap and roto bug, relays for the fan and fuel pump. Problem started when i fixed the under hood light, also left the key on for 2 days both killing the battety. After charging the battery I had a no start, figured it was out of fuel as i was working on a minor overheating problem. After making sure it wad fixed I shut the car off leading to the dead battery. Well I put 5 gallons in the car and still no start, hmm listened for the fuel pump did not hear it. That ended up being a bad ground behind the passage side head after it was fixed i and jumping the relay on the fuel pump to check fuel pressure 40 psi btw I hooked everything back up and gave it a crank. Again no start I went probing around with a test light/voltmeter armed with the info the guys on thirdgen* see link above* on what to check and where. After all that I'm still stumped.........
