motor swap
hey guys, i'm new to camaro's so try to bare with me here..
i've got an opportunity to pick up an 86 z28 for 200 bucks, minus the motor and tranny
i also have an 80's 350sbc im currently building up in my garage, it's carbed though. possibly moving to the tuned port injection system soon though.
what i'm wondering is what amount of work will it take to swap this motor into the 86 with the carb?
howbout with the tuned port injection system?
also i want the camaro to be a 5 speed, what kind of trans should i be looking for?
and last, anybody have any suggestions, heads ups, anything?

RE: motor swap
you should be able to drop it in fairly easy.As long as the body is in good shape thats a great deal. Was the car originally a auto or manual ?Depending on what your budget or plan is(buying new or used trans), just get a 5speed from a 3rd gen camaro or firebird, im not sure what they called them.

RE: motor swap
Motor swap shouldn't be that hard. With the TPI you'll have to make sure you get all of the wiring, put an O2 sensor in the exhaust, etc. but it's worth the trouble in my opinion; with a carb you shouldn't have any trouble at all.
Was the car a manual tranny to begin with? You can get a 5 spd from another 3rd gen or you can buy a heavy duty one from Jegs, but you'll be paying a pretty penny for it. If you're not making a torque monster motor, find a 5spd from another Camaro and pop it in. It would just be an issue of installing a clutch pedal and a shifter for it, and you can get those from the same donor car as the tranny.
