Default Gear shifter jumping

I've got an 84 Z28 with a 305 and standard 5-speed transmission ... front to back it is all stock.

Last night on the way home, I noticed the gear shifter jumping up a few inches (noticeable would be an understatement) whenever I 'get on it' in first from a start and/or when I shift quickly from 1st to second.

My first thought would be the transmission mount but wanted to see if I needed to look elsewhere.

Thanks

Yep, the tail end of the transmission will get pushed up by the torque arm if the trans mount is torn.

Thank you for the reply.

That is what I thought ... is it an 'easy' fix or is this something I'll want to have a professional do?

Also ... is it driveable this way without any serious/permanent damage?

Yes. it's an easy fix, google a how-to if you need to.
And yes, you can still drive the car, as long as you take it nice and easy on the throttle.

its very easy to do. theres 4 bolts on the crossmember, 15mm heads. theres 1 on the mount to the crossmember, and should be 2 on the trans. you could it without removing the crossmemeber, but its much easier to get to the trans bolts with it out of the way.
