engine swap need help

Default engine swap need help

iv got a 1987 IROC-Z 5.7 tuned port injected comaro , me and a budy of mine are trying to swap the engine for a 1991 TPI and i cant seem to get the engine out of the engine bay , do i need to drop the engine from the bottom or can i do this from the top ive disconeted everything but the engine wont come out . is there another set of bolts on the top of the bellhousing that i cant see? im stumped..... PLZ help if u can i neeed advise .... thx

Did you remove your motor mount bolts,? trans member?, torque ARM? Do some searching on the net. For removing a motor. Hell YouTube it..

Are you taking the engine out and leaving the transmission in? If so, did you undo the torque convertor bolts? Its gonna get real messy if you pull the TC out from the transmission. Plus if you dont have the bolts undone you would have to pull the engine straight forward a couple inches just to get the TC to clear the trans before you could lift up.

Sounds like you may not have gotten the hard to see and hard to get to upper bellhousing bolts.
Fyi, it's a hell of a lot easier to yank the engine and trans together as a unit, and easier still when putting it back in.

I concur

it's much easier when stabbing it back into the car.
