Default Do fuel pumps constantly run so loud?

I feel dumb for asking, but here goes.
On my 1992 camaro, when you put the key forward you hear the fuel pump for 2 seconds and its pretty loud.
Does it run all the time? and is it normal for it to be so loud?

Thanks in advance

How loud is loud? It normally makes a noticable noise for the initial prime when you turn the key on. And no, it doesn't keep running after that. It won't run again until you start the engine, or if you turn the key off and on again. BTW, your pump will be noisier if your fuel in the tank is low.

I thought I explained it correctly...maybe not?
The pump is supposed to be running when the engine is running. But you shouldn't really be able to hear it, unless you go listening for it in back. Your pump motor is probably on it's way out. Or, could just be your exhaust isn't loud enough!
