Cheap fixes?
I just got a 87 Z-28 today, I haven't really had a chance to go over it that much, but I'm curious what are some suggested cheap upgrades that I should check out.
Previous owner said it’s a 305 V8, he replaced the exhaust system from the engine backward, and it hassome performance chip (not sure what for) and new tires. I also noticed it appears to have a generator instead of an alternator, I found that interesting, never really had a car with one.
Anyway it runs well so far but I've only drove it once about 25 miles on the highway, I noticed the idle runs atoo high when not in gear, over 2k RPM, but seems ok when in gear, so I'm going to check for an idle screw to adjust that. It also smokes when started, but it stops once it runs a second or two. Finally, I hear a slight ticking sound when the key is on but not started, it doesn't do it all the time, it stopped after 10 seconds the first time so I didn't have time to pin point what it was.
Aside from that I don't know much about it yet, its dark and I need a new light in the garage lol,I figured I'd see what tips you all could offer a new Camaro owner. Not ready to do the big upgrades yet, but anything inexpensive but effectivewould definitely be appreciated
I'm already planning to change the oil and filter, air filter, probably spark plugs and maybe wires if needed. I ran my finger in the coolant overflow reservoir, and its a bit rustic, so I'm thinking flush the coolant system as well.
