Default Interior fixes

Does anyone know if it is possible and how to change the lock cylinder on the glove box of a '94 without breaking it or the latch?

should be three screws holding it in. take them off and it should come right out. unless your talking about the slug in the lock, cant find anything yet.

Ya, actually wanting to change the lock cylinder itself, already changed the latch, the original had a busted latch with a good lock. Don't see any tabs to push or anything like that. Kinda hoping someone had done it before. Fishing yet?

No good general service manual, just a chilton, have an LT1service manual. Have two parts manuals, guess I better get one. Are the ones on cd/dvd they sell on ebay any good? Had back surgery Thursday, feel 1000% better, should have done this a long time ago. No heavy lifting for 6-8 week and nothing over 10 lbs for 3 weeks. The wife has to help me, you know..... Anyway, my plan to do the engine transplant on my V6 project by Thanksgiving is dead until after the 1st of the year now. So I'm working on all the light stuff, power washed all the enterior yesterday, sunny day so it dried fast and looks really good, just needs bolster repaired on drivers seat and a few spots on the carpet and one rear seat bucket. Rewired, back to stock, all the stereo wiring. I am gonna post all my before pictures here in a few days. I'll let you know when.

Thanks, but this doesn't look like it has any release pins at all. Funny thing is key to all 3 cars fit the one with the broken release and actually lock the lock. None of the keys fit the one with the good release. BTW, I posted before pics on both my projects.

I did the lock cylinder fix on my 94. It's tricky and I mutilated a junkyard donor to learn. Let me look at my box of parts to refresh my memory. Do you have keys for all the lock cylinders involved?

Having some trouble reconstructing what I did from the broken parts. I do know that the following steps are correct:

1) open glove box door
2) remove two hex head screws securing latch assembly to door
3) remove latch assembly from door
4) manually move (with your finger) the spring-loaded latch anvil to the door latched position
5) insert key into lock cylinder and *lock* the latch

Then it gets murkier.

Theres a small hole on the right side of the latch assembly. This hole is in the cylinder housing and more or less behind the lower mounting screw post.

Stick a small pin (bent paper clip) into that hole to depress a metal tab and pull the lock cylinder (with the key still in it) from the bore.

Don't force anything. When you do this correctly the cylinder will simply fall into your hand.

I think that going back together you leave the key out until the cylinder is almost all the way in. That last "tumbler" (the silver one) will prevent full insertion and that had me puzzled for a while. The trick is to insert the key part way and then the cylinder will drop all the way in. Turn the key to unlock the works and reinstall the latch.

If this works let me know. If not I'll look at my car tomorrow and figure it out again. It should only take a few minutes but I was too busy to do it today.
