Hello all,

So I have a 1990 Chevy Camaro RS 5.0 V8 with some brake issues and was hoping for some help!

I have replaced the master cylinder twice, just put new pads, rotors, and calipers on both front brakes and have checked the rear drums numerous times to make sure that they are engaging-- which they are. My problem lies with the pedal. The brakes aren't firm at all, and I can get the pedal all the way to floor with minimal effort. Though the car does come to a stop, this is obviously not the safest pedal to have.

Any suggestions?

 

Did you bench bleed the master and make sure you got all the air out before hooking the lines up to it?
And you're sure you did a thorough job of bleeding the system?

 

do you have any brake fluid leak? Also, have you replaced the rubber brake lines? You might actually have an expanding brake line

 

Yes I bench bled, and yes I checked the lines they all look just fine. My only thought would be that I have read that my year Camaro has a "special" master cylinder... if I am not using the special one and just using a generic one, could that be the problem?

 

I don't know what would be "special" about yours, if you're buying one listed for your car. Master cylinders aren't available as a one size fits all, they're make/model specific. What and where did you read about yours having a special master? What brand are you using by the way, and was your original master doing the same thing as the replacements are?
