Cool 89 camaro IROC engine swap.

My friend and I,are trying to put a chevy (350) motor in replacement of his RS (305) v8 motor. Just need some advice on what we will need as far as ECU and maybe tranny wise, or any other particular stuff we need to adjust. Also, looking for a place that has them for a real good price.

i think you can use most everything from the 305, however i'm not entirely sure about that.

A 350 swap into a 305 TBI car and now you ask questions. I hope 350RS can Post some of his bits of wisdom on this project since he done some of this before (305TBI to 350 TBI to 350TPI (not completed) to now LT1 (with a 5sp no less). His advice should be noted on such engine swaps.

It will be a lot of time and money to get that finished, but the good news is that its very doable and many have done it before.

You just need to make up your mind on what you want and what the laws and regs are (AZ is a little tough on the emission side, that limited my cam and exhaust selection). Motor mounts and factory pulley set up shouldn't be a hassle, transmission should be 700r4/4l60E(note the e for torque converter lockup). If you want to keep current drive shaft length and keep OD.

Now figure out what you've got in your wiring harness, do you currently use the 4l60E? If so, a refreshed/built one is fine up to what ever you need it to be. Is it TPI? ETC.... Don't go into it without knowing what you have first, or you'll blow so much time and money you'll wish you never started.

I am more than a little dissapointed at my project because of how limited I had to be because of emissions and etc. I have a brand new Proformanceunlimited $6K 383 with 450hp and a brand new Hughes performance 4L60 (no E) fully decked and after following all the rules, it just looks like a dressed up motor (with ugly *** smog headers).....till you hit the key. My point is that even knowing what I wanted and knowing what I had and following the rules it still added up to A LOT of time/money/trips to auto stores/custom fabs. You cannot do it right and cheap at the same time.
