700r4 trans help
Can someone please explain to me why my 700r4 has a plug and a wiring harness, and what controls it? What do the wires go to? My 83z has a new 305 that basicly bypasses the ecm, does the ecm control the trans as well? What can I do (if any thing) to insure that my trans is operateing correctly?

The wiring is for the lockup feature of the torque converter.
In overdrive, the ECM trips a solenoid in the trans that activates the control valve which allows fluid to be pumped forward to put pressure on the lockup clutch inside the torque converter.
So to keep the lockup operational, which you do want to keep, you need to install an aftermarket lockup control like one of these: http://www.summitracing.com/search/?...20lockup&dds=1
Also make sure you adjust your Throttle Valve (TV) cable properly. That controls shift points and internal fluid pressure. A misadjustment can cause off-shifts, and could also eventually burn up the trans.
