85 v6 TPI, 5 speed. will start right up and idles great but as soon as you touch the gas it quits. is this a sensor? What is ; ECM, TPS, EGR, MAF? The book lists these as possibilities but does not explain them. When I jump the codes for the check engine lightit flashes 3 times then 4 times; any idea what this is trying to tell me? No number shows up. Thanks for your help! JackC.

ECM is ur computer, EGR recirculates exhaust into the intake for fuel economy or some crap like that, TPS is throttle position sensor, MAF is the mass airflow sensor.
dont know exactly how any of these will fail to cause ur problem tho, sorry

Idles perfect but you can not rev it . Sometimes it acts like it wants to take the gas then quites as if you shut it off. Then starts easy again. No chunking noises.
This car has been sitting for a number of years. I am the original owner. I replaced the fule pump, changed the filter, emptied the gas tank, cleaned the injecters and the throttle body, new plugs and wires. You can't move the throttle not even a touch and it will quit. I mean not even an 1/8 of an inch. just hit the key and it will start, very frustrating.
Good to hear from you. JackC.

Thanks Pete!! I'll check these tomorrow. What does it mean by bad burn or relay and where do I look for this relay.
I love this site. this is the first time I feel like I'm getting good answers from people.

EGR stands for exhaust gas recirculation and this particular part is for emissions purposes. What it does is it recirculates exhaust gases back into your intake to lower combustion chamber temp. With out it the combustion chambers would reach 2500 F and create NOx.
