There is a pink wire that goes from the gauge to the sender. The sender opperates on a ground by sending different resistances. Locate the pink wire. It may be easier to just tap into it rather than pull it off the sender since its a pain to get the tank down. If I remember the wires will be under the corpet on the drivers side. Pull the sill plate and lift the carpet to see. Tap into the pink wire and ground it with the key on and see if the gauge moves. If it moves then you either have a bad sender or abreak in the wire between the tapped point. You could also have a bad ground on the sender.

Fill it up again.
You should get more of a range out of it but it depends on your driving style on how much. Fill it and see how much you used. Itsa 15gallon tank.
