Default 1985 2.8 v6 camaro fuel problem!!!!

just wondering if anyone can help me out with this camaro? car had no gas tank when i bought it, i was told it had a sending unit problem! so i put a new carted universal pump in the tank, but pump still not working. there is a plug that the sending unit plugs into above the tank on the body of the car, it has three wires on it! i tested the wires with a test light and one wire gives a very dim light, the other there is NO power to it. a guy told me there should be two power wires and one ground in that plug. well i only have week power in one wire. how do i fix this problem? i need to get this car running soon, im starting to loose interest!!!! if i run a new wire from the battery back then the pump wont turn off.

do you have a volt meter to see what your getting out of the line. the dim light on your tester, was it a steady dim or was it blinking or getting brighter to indicate there was a short. and you might have to follow the line to see if you do have a short some where or to see if a previous owner splice the line with another power source.
