Default T5 hard shifting

I have an 83 Z28. I replaced the 305 with a 350. The t5 manual transmission has been rebuild and the clutch, pilot bearing and and throw out bearing have all been replaced. When the engine and or transmission gets hot the it is hard to shift gears. this is most noticable after I have been driving then shut the engine off and restart it in about 10min. I have to make sure that the tranny is not in gear as the clucth feels that it has not released. Once the engine temp has dropped to 195 I can get the tranny to shift better. I have adjusted the linkage and it seems to work ok until the builds up. In the past I have adjusted the linkage and have caused the Z bar to tear so I am nervous about adjusting more

Found my own solution. Turns out it was the polit bearing. It was so bad the technician said i could have destoryed the tranny with all the free play.

So, who supposedly replaced the pilot bearing when the trans and clutch job was done? Somebody skimped, and spoofed about what was done. Hope you really have a new clutch too.

Don't be suprised if the front bearing in the t5 fails in the next 10,000 miles or so. If the shaft was moving around enough it was throw the clutch out of wack then that front bearing has taken a beating.

Thanks for the heads up. The technician did check for play and was confident that it was ok.

A mechainc has no way of testing for surface stress cracks and brineling that would cause a failure 10,000 miles later. If he could feel the issue with his hands it would fail in less then 500 miles.

There are testers that could detect it but the are only really used in the aerospace fields plus you would have to remove the bearing to test it. On the plus side your tranny will give you warning. It will start to chatter like the clutch is going bad and when you pull it a part to replace the clutch that is when your tech will be able feel it.
