speedometer issue
So, today when I was driving my speedometer just suddenly stopped working.
I am no mechanical wiz yet, so I have not got a clue on what caused it. When I am driving it will have about a second of life get to 10mph and then drop.
When I let my car sit for about a hour it was working till I had to use my breaks then it was done.
I would really like to know if this is a big issue or something I can fix at home, with stuff I have laying around.

not real sure on the 92 but if u have a electronic speedo and no cable running from the tranny to the dash then it could be a bad connection at the tranny. im sure one of the third gen guys will know more. u could check under the car towards the rear of the transmission on the driver side of the tail shaft housing there should be either a cable or a set of wires coming out. if its cable drive ull see a cable housing running out of the tranny, it has the drive cable inside of it and they do break and will grab on occasion and make the speedo work. not to hard to change.

Speedo is electric as of 1990. It could be one of many things; a bad speed sensor or connection to it, a loose or corroded connection at the gauge cluster, or something with the computer. I would check the wiring first, then the cluster. The gauge cluster plugs into the dash, and has no wires. The back of it is a sheet of flexible pc board, and the gauges have prongs and clips to make contact with the board. Those could be loose or cruddy.

Do you have a mechanical speedo with a cable to the tranny or an electronic one? If you have a cable, sounds like it twisted around and stuck. You're going to have to take it off to check it out. If you have an electronic speedo, hook up a code reader and see what it says. You've got a bad sensor
