Default My 86 355 camaro project

Hello, I joined this forum about a month ago and am just now getting around to my first post/thread. A little about my self my names Jake, I just graduated high-school last spring and I am currently a steel worker working 72 hours a week so my project probably wont be the fastest moving thing on here...not untill it's done anyway. I enjoy helping others out when I can and talking about anything with an engine in it.
And now for my car. It's an 86 camaro that from what I was told has a very mildly built 305 and 700r4 in it. When it started up it didn't sound like it had anything done to it other than glasspacks dumped behind the axle. But for $800 i wasn't going to complain. It had to be trailered to my buddies garage due to a "bad shift cable" which I was suspicious of. Again for $800 I'm not complaining since my intentions were to redo the tranny anyway. I will attach photos as soon as I am allowed to.

For now I will tell you the plans for it. I just bought a Mildly cammed GM 355 with forged internals. I got it off a buddy of mine who built it to drop into his s10 for $600. Not bad considering he put about $1200 in it. For the problems with the tranny it ended up partly being the shift cable. It was held together with electrical tape. Turns out thats now all that was wrong with it. It ended up locking up on the trailer and once we got it apart we discovered that the tailshaft was shattered. We don't know if this was because of the bad shift cable and it got stuck in between gears and then locked up on the trailer or not. So the tranny will be getting rebuilt. I plan on putting a new shift kit and stall converter in it not sure which size yet though.
The 305 is going to my buddy who is also building an 82 camaro next to mine.
