after the emissions test pass I'll get collector plates and won't need an emissions test for another 5 years here in northern colorado. so when done I'll switch it back to the 3in set up I currently have sitting in the corner.

It depends on what is required for your emission test. You may have to have all the original emission system to pass the test. The computer control carb and distributer are a major part of the emission system on your car.

The computer would control the carb based on o2 inputs to get the emission right. It is kind of like fuel injection. I think getting rid of the computer controlled carb would be an instant fail for most emission testing. You should talk to someone from your area.

Also keep in mind your transmission was configured to be behind a very low torque motor. A 290 hp 350 will twist it up pretty quick. 290 HP with a supercharge is going to require a 2-3k transmission a $1200-1500 rear and better torque control system.

I've already got the better rear end. and a built th400 with overdrive upgraded clutch pack and a shift kit. new front and rear sway bar links, new suspension pretty much. slotted routers with 3 piston brembo calipers. think I covered all of my goodies. so am I just taking out the computer, dist, and electronic carb and leaving everything else hooked up?

when it comes to the wireing. not with my swap almost all the wires were gone when done ,you may need a good wire guy that knows what to keep an what not to now knowing our swaps are different there still gen 1 blocks you got so much more to work with the bigger engine bay take your time also you cluster an al the gauges should be fine ,depending what state you live in it may not need emissions pre 96 in my state does not need emissions ,so no one can tell you wich ones to keep an wich ones not to keep ,you just need to figure it out or have a good wireing guy help you, with my 4th gen there was a lot more wires,? why a super charger on a just over stock engine ,there 2000.00 average used why not just a beefy engine instead ,you mights well do things right with rebuilt or remanufactured ,a lot of guys that go with like used parts have more regrets ,like radiator starter power streeing ,I did it all ,couse I relized I did not want, one used part to affect my swap then it can look something like thiswas $3400.00 400hp + an near 500tlbs ,it turns out I got agreat deal on mine though you should also move this to projects section an take pictures 82 - 92 after all sound like you got a project now

so a short phone call to the Colorado air care program told me that I have to have all the original equipment that it rolled off the line with. one cat, pvc, electronic carb, thermostat air, air injection system, air pump. then if they see all that they will pass me. but won't even touch it with my supercharger on top. so it looks like I'm putting in the 290 hp 350 and putting all of the same **** back on it till after my e-test. then back into the shop to have the dist upgraded and the carb and exaust system and the super charger on top.

Colorado law states there isn't a requirement on displacement for the chevy small blocks just hydro carbon emissions and co2 emissions. it won't even go on the rollers it will get a sniffer up her tail pipe. so follow the emissions requirements and then get 5 yr collector plates and I won't have to switch back for 5 years.

my power plant will be all compleatly new gm pp 350 from oil pan to air cleaner. it comes with 290 hp at 5500 rpm and 375lb ft of torque at 3500 rpm. put a 144 roots supercharger on top and I've got close to 600 hp at the rear wheel. But not until.after I get the e- test swap out computer, carb, and dist, keep original parts and install my 3in exaust system. I can keep all wiring in place and still be able to swap back shortly for a once every 5 yr e-test.

the only original parts being used till.after the e test are the original exaust including cat and down air tube, air pump and air lines, carb and dist and the computer. all those will.go away after the e test. so those of you here in co state law says that if you do an engin swap all original emissions equipment must be on the vehicle your testing.

you can use a supercharger if there's an executive order on the part from the state saying it's acceptable in colorado for street use.
