I'm thinking about purchasing a cheap 1990 camaro as my first car (I turn 17 in a few weeks), and I already have enough money and everything. One turn-off is that the car is automatic, and I've always been a traditional stick shift fanatic (ever since my dad's cars).

For those who have automatics/5 spds, will my experience with this awesome car be scarred if I drive an automatic? Because I heard it makes it kind of dull w/o the 5 spd...

 

I like the 700R4 Automatic. Super low first gear for fishtailing in the puddles and great OverDrive for gas mileage. The five speed is more fun but it's a drag changing the clutch $$$$ and good luck if you hurt the tranny $$$$$$

 

it all depends on how good of a driver you are to start with. if your pretty much just beggining, get an auto. Learn how to handle the car and what it will do. Once your comfortable, find yourself a stick. OR just take it real easy for awhile. When i started driving ( legally) it was in an old truck with a 4 speed on the floor.

 

i wish i had a stick, would have made auto-x much more fun. get the auto, you can always swap it for a stick later on in the cars life.

 

if you wan't a stick, get a stick. otherwise your gonna regret it, not bashing the 700r4's but if its not what you have your heart set on don't bother with it.

 

go 5 speed or go home !!!!!
