Default Tranny swap, should work right??

I have a 1991 Camaro RS, With the 3.1 v-6. The transmission is messed up pretty bad. My father-in-law gave me a 85' camaro with a junk motor but said the transmission is good in it. I pulled the tranny out of the 85' and when I looked at the one in the 91' the bell housing looks different. I have not pulled the tranny out of the 91'. im wanting to find out for sure if the one out of 85' will fit in the 91' (Both are 7004r). I do have the vins from both transmissions if that will help.

85' VIN# 4ypo59b

91' VIN# 1fbm1500

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

What engine was in the 85? If it was a v-8, then no, it won't work. The v-6 bellhousing is a smaller pattern than the v-8.

Also if the 85 is a V6, it would have been a 2.8, they went to the 3.1 in I think like 90 or 91...

Ok... no the 85' is a 305ci. This is the first v-6 I have owned and was unaware that the bellhousings are diffrent from a v-6 and a v-8. well Guess ill have to send the tranny off to be rebuilt or find one that fits a v-6.. thanks for the fast responses...
