Default Strange Taillight Problem

So after a completely terrible night, I'm on my way home when I look in my rear view and see flashing lights. I wasn't speeding, so I was a little irritated and proceded to pull into a gas station. The cop got out and started yelling at me saying that I had no taillights and saying how dangerous it was and such. I was surprised and he told me to get out and look. Low and behold when I get out I see my taillights are clearly lit. He was upset that they were working and ran my license. Ended up getting off with a warning luckily.

He mentioned that when I pressed the brake lights that they lit up, as well as the reverse lights. Wtf? My buddy was behind me once and said my reverse lights were on while driving, then they would go off, and come back on. The taillights were always working though.

So what could this be? I know my grounds are good back there. I suppose it's probably also worth mentioning that when I dim the lights all the way, the sound dies on my head unit, then comes back on after a few seconds (not the power only the sound.)

the reverse lights comming on with the brake lights is 100% a ground issue. there is probably some wire rubbed through in the rear and corroded together, and the easiest way to ground is through the back up lights. if its intermittent problems its 80% of the time an issue dealing with corrosion. i deal with stuff like this every day
