Speedometer cable lube

What is the recommended grease to lubricate the speedometer cable. Would a muti-purpose grease be ok.
85 Z-28 manual transimssion.

The lithium grease for grease guns is fine. Do not grease tha last six inches at the spedometer end, otherwise the grease winds up into the spedometer mechanism and it won't work right.
