Ok guys, as soon as it gets warm here in NY, Im dropping the tre-fiddy under the hood. Now Ive never done a V8 swap, and only helped on a few straight 4's when I was younger. However, Ive done everything else and have worked as a mechanic and shop hand for half my life. (What Im saying is I can turn a wrench as well as the next gear head.) What Im looking for is any suggestions to avoid an "Oh shiznizzle' moment once I undertake this project. SO, all you pros, think back to your first 305 to 350 swap and tell me what you did wrong so I can learn. No suggestion too small, no idea to dumb. Thanks. -Scott

 

Scott, sorry I don't have any specific experience in your swap...but I can offer one tip that I see overlooked too many times. PLEASE make sure that you have a good engine hoist, and that it is anchored properly!!!!!!!! I have seen a few times people that either had small hoists that failed or hoists that weren't supported well enough. You really don't want to drop that 350 on your foot!

 

Good to know, as Im sure I will be using a 'borrowed' hoist. Ill keep an eye on it. And one more thing....NICE RIDE!

 

Another suggestion: Mark and indentify all wires and hoses and what they were connected to. Also take pictures (close ups)before you touch anything.

 

That's is actually a VERY good point! Especially the photo thing. With today's cameras, you should shoot as much video and photos before you start hacking away as possible. Also, don't cut any wires...even if you are sure you don't need them or are going to replace them. Trust me...this can come back to haunt you!
