BS. 3.1's didn't come around till 90 (might have been 91) and that sure as hell aint a 90. I would place it at either a 84 or 85.

well there is a couple of possibilities here, for one, always assume the owner is lying, it is definately an 86 prior, uts got the 86 center console, (does not indicate what gear you are in, you have to match it with the shifter) nor does it have the high mount tail light, as for the 3100? the only way there is a 3100 in there is if someone decided to swap it in for the extra 10 H.P, doubtfull, but there are idiots out there,, no it is POSSIBLE that they swappin an 86 shifter, that they had to replace the hatch glass and didnt mount the 3rd brake light, and that this guy thought he would benefit from an extra .3 of a liter in displacement, but is it highly unlikely? extremely. as for in the intake leak, these are VERY prone to it, look at the gasket mating surfaces for the lower intake manifold where they mate to the head, thats USUALLY where they show themselves. but if the bottom of the car is solid, with no frame rail cracks near the steering gear, and you intend on putting a v8 in? well trade him the xbox, and 5 games lol.

based on the pics and my own car(84) and whats been said here, I think its an 85, as my 84 has a round horn button and there is no third breaklight, but I am no expert on camaros. they could have had more then 1 steering wheel option.

bud, if youu want a v8 manual just get one right off. its alot of money to conver a v6 std to a v8 manual what with the front end stuff and the items you will need for the manual and you can find them all the time for about a grand or less( here in cleveland anyway).

just my 2 cents....

don't forget the 3.1 made a solid 40 ft/lbs on the 2.8 though (180 compared to 140) the extra torque helps around town

Hey, I got a running '82 with a V8 and automatic tranny for $500, you've GOT to be able to find a fixer-upper V8 with a manual tranny in it for $700.

the best way to get one with a v-8 is to just buy one with a v-8 in it all ready it cost way to much to get the v-6 one then put a 8 under the hood mine is a 85 berlinetta and i paid 1500 for it pretty good shape and only 74k miles all original. but a few months later i saw v-8 ones for 1500 on ksl pretty descent ones too. as for power upgrades there are none. i know a guy who bored his out put a cam in it and and heads but he didnt gane much
