I actually just got done putting in a shift kit into my car. First of all they are great! The way they work is...they increase the amount of pressur in the transmission. The increased pressure makes the shifts much more firm, and snapier. One of the advantages is less time between shifts. It is also good for the trans because the amount of time between the old shifts is actually a slipping action between gears. This will actually decrease the potential life of the tranny. Also after you get done iunstalling the shift kit you are going to want to get what is called a 4-2 high performance servo. Because of the increased pressure the factory servo cant handle it. Before the installation of the servo there will be a "flare up" between 2 and 3 but the servo will eliminate this. I hope this has been helpful and I recomiend doing it.

I am not exactly sure about its function but it is on the side of the tranny. It is round and it kind of sticks out and no its not that big of a deal to do
