Default Removing Starter

I have to put a new starter in my car. I have disconnected the wires from the old starter and have removed the bolts that hold it in place. The thing now just sits there on an exhaust pipe and I can't get it out. Do I have to remove the exhaust pipe or is there some secret I'm not aware of to get this thing out of there?

My car is a 1988 305 automatic.

I don't remember having that problem with our headers. See if you can slowly wiggle it out, otherwise you may have to drop the exhause a little bit.

you pulled the bolts full out right? if you did and the exhaust is in the way, i dont kno what to tell you. i had to take my starter out to put in my headers, but never had to take the starter out with the exhaust in. if you cant wiggle the hell out of it to get it out, i would guess that you undo the header from the block, take out the starter side motor mount bolt, and lift the motor up by the oil pan with a jack and a flat piece of wood. you could probably gain up to 4-5 inches from lifting the motor, so first find out how much room you need to get it out.

before my 89 i had a 88 with the 305, you dont have to do anything with the exaust, u just have to get it turned the right way keep trying im sure you will get it and the same goes for putting it on
