Default rear hatch assembly

ok. 87 z28. at first, my question was in ref to3rd brake light. i took the plastic off the inside of thetrunk area. now i have more concerns. i have wires that are not hooked up to anything. it would appear that the hatch latch itself moves up and down but mine does not. the rear deck seems as if itdoesn't sit flush either. right side is weaker(less stable) then the left side. i'm sure some of the wires arefor the electric release of which mine doesn't have. i post some pictures next. maybe someone can help with what they do. manual shows nothing with rearlidother than taking it off the car. nada on thelatch system.

i'm trying here.says file is too large. picture is 1.46mb. i'll go into resizing. anyway, metal thing on both side of latch assembly appear to be able to be moved up/down. mine don't move. there is a little black switch that that is hanging there. has a single screw to hold it somewhere. something at looks like a turnsignal flasher, and a connector that has white/orange/brown. have another white wire just haning there. tomorrow i'll try again. sorry, kinda like starting a project w/o the tools right now. back tomorrow.

on part 2 of attachments, the first is on the rear deck. believe its for the 3rd break light switch of some sort or its an electric release ( i have no button for).

2nd is round circle thing with elctric contacts inside. its on the bottom passenger side of the latch assembly. you can see part of it on the first picture. one of the contacts are flopping around and the copper wires are kinda just hanging there.

again, the 1st picture on both side of the latch assembly has these tracks that the latch sits in. since its tracks, means moves up and down? there are plastic pieces inside the tracks but are broken.any help will be greatly appreciated.

Those contacts are for the third brake light. You have one in the deck lid spoiler right? Some will say its to operate the power pull down but they are wrong. That is what the switch in pic two post three is for. When the latch locks on the stricker it touches that switch and tells the motor to pull the lid down. When there is nothing touching the switch it tells the motor to go up. Now the last pic??? Is that whats left of the electric motor for the power pull down???
Do you need a wiring diagram for that from an older chiltons before they became haynes on the inside?

i would love a wiring diagram. that would help. i'm guessing u r correct ref the motor pull down. just never seen one before. go figure, crank windows, manual seats, no tilt but its got a power lid pulldown? ha. it would be funny if not mine.

thanks ref the tip on the tilt steering in my other post. i don't know if u seen it, but do the plates all just come off or does the steering wheel need removed also? thanks mike.....mark
