Starting Issues
I'm having some really weird problem with my car. It's a 1989 Camaro V8 5.0L 305. Manual transmission.
I turn the key forward, and get power throughout my car, but I just don't get anything from the starter. No clicking or anything. I've tried replacing the neutral safety switch, starter, and solenoid. Still nothing. It starts like 95% of the time, then there's that 5% where is just doesn't do anything.
It has a security system, im not sure if its stock or aftermarket though. Could that be causing the problem? I've tried to disconnect the battery and reconnect in hopes that the system would reset, but it doesn't help at all.
To get my car started yesterday, we had to pop the clutch and after that, it started fine every time I tried.

Is the security system the light in the dash that says "security" or is it a remote button on the key chain? Do you have the pellet in your key? Clean it off. If its a security system with the remote kind then try removing it.
Also do you have to turn the key a lot to get the starter to turn when it does? Can you turn the key back and get it into the "ACC" position easy? Maybe the switch needs adjusting.

Well I have a security light on the dash and the keyless entry remote. Sometimes I'll notice the security light flicker on for a few seconds while I'm driving for no apparent reason. And yes, it is sort of hard to turn the key back to ACC. Maybe I'll check the switch too.
ok i had the same problem. it was the switch for me though. I replaced it, and that didnt fix it, i guess i got another bad switch. So i jumped it. Everything works great now. Starts everytime. hot or cold. saved me 200 bucks for a new starter!
could it be a bad starter relay because i have a problem 2 were i start my car and it doesnt turn over it takes about the 3rd turning of the key to start and i replaced my starter and someone recommended i change my relay if it has one
I agree with 350rs , Ignition switch try by passing it, you can run a jumper wire off the solenoid, one with a button connect one to the positive wire large stud on the solenoid and the other to the field wire small stud, and hit the plunger! if it works and im sure it will, everytime! replace the ignition switch, some auto parts store have those leads, it,s so you can bump the engine over out of the car, like for checking cylinder compression, Good luck.
i didnt even have to do that much. The connector that the switch plugs into is where i did my jump. I connected one, to the other... simple less that 3 cents worth of parts, 3 inches of wire. and there ya go.
